My Story
My IttyBittyQuiltShop started as a retirement hobby. I intended to put together a few t-shirt quilts for my children. As I browsed "how-to" books and YouTube videos I got interested to learn more about the type of quilting my grandmother did: scrap and block quilting. She made one for me that I had packed away for over 40 years because it was badly ripped from a run-in with a clothesline in western Oklahoma.
I thought to myself if I could ever learn enough about quilting to repair my grandmother's quilt that I would have achieved my goal to be a quilter. So I taught myself to quilt. I made quilts for family, friends, and the occasional person who just needed a quilt to get them through a rough patch.
After three years of "practicing" I got the nerve to pull grandma's quilt out of the box. I laid it on a bed and studied it and contemplated the safest approach to repair it. It worked! The first cut of the old fabric and adding new fabric to create a new border and binding gave it new life and instilled in me the confidence to try my hand at quilt repair. A good friend from Birmingham, AL entrusted me to make repairs to his grandmother's 80 year old quilt. It was like magic, removing and replacing and repairing this beloved quilt.
Since then I have repaired several quilts and every time it is so satisfying and joyous to see the old quilt revived and laid out again for a family to remember and recall memories of their loved ones.
